Salt Lab Forum 2024

Join us for discussions on Salinity Mitigation and Adaptation Efforts!

The Salt Lab Consortium is delighted to invite you to the Salt Lab Forum on 24-25 October 2024 in Tra Vinh Province, Vietnam. Please RSVP through the link below.

Discussion on Salinity Challenges in Mekong Delta

The Mekong Delta’s increasing salinity challenges need integrated management strategies. Combining scientific research with local knowledge is crucial to preserving the region’s agricultural productivity and safeguarding its ecosystems against the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation. Join the discussions on challenges and efforts in shaping the future of the Mekong Delta.

Site Visit on Adaptation Measures and Innovation in Champion Farmer’s Farm

Several adaptive interventions have been implemented in Con Chim Island to support the Champion Farmer in adapting to current conditions. The farm has been equipped with intervention models that are replicable and adaptable to other locations. See how the various solutions are integrated and function effectively.

Salt Lab Youth Challenge Idea Presentation

Selected youth teams from the Mekong Delta will present their ideas on salinity adaptation in the region. These presentations will spark discussion and facilitate knowledge sharing among attendees and the future leaders of the Mekong Delta.

Parallel Seminars to Explore Opportunities for Next Phase

Seminar 1: Developing Scalable Business Models for the Living Lab Approach on Saline Agriculture in the Mekong Delta

Speakers: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Diep Thanh Tung (Tra Vinh University), Mr. Peter Prins (Land Water Food Consult), Mr. Guus Paardekoper (SkillEd)

Interactive session to discuss feasible business models aiming at transition to sustainable systems on agriculture in a saline environment in the Mekong Delta. How to achieve climate resilient farming systems through multi-level partnerships? What could/should be the role of a Living Lab to enhance and facilitate the realization of these business models?

Seminar 2: Practical Design and Implementation of Salinity Adaptation Solutions

Speakers: Dr. Long Pham Kim (Tra Vinh University), Dr. Bas Bruning (The Salt Doctors), Steven Starmans (Kim Delta)

Interactive session to learn about the practical aspects of designing, implementing and operating various salinity adaptation solutions, such as hydroponics, constructed wetlands and water treatment. The solutions will be presented by experts from the Mekong Salt Lab project drawing on their experience in Vietnam and other parts of the world.

Water Treatment Demonstration

Speaker: Dr. Danny Jannink (Saxion University)

Join Dr. Danny Jannink from Saxion University during the coffee break for an exciting, interactive water treatment demonstration. He will showcase how different types of quality water are produced, such as drinking water from surface water. Through a real-time experiment you will see yourself how the processes work.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Salt Lab Forum!
